The EKIBIO Group consists of nine companies structured in a model of virtuous growth. The whole entity’s business performance and robust financial health gives us the resources to take action in line with our beliefs and to invest in keeping with our commitments.
Fair, solidarity-based partnerships with organic farmers
In France and worldwide, the Group develops supply chains that mean we commit to farmers. To give them the resources they need to work with dignity (respecting their soil and environment, with a secure regular income, etc.), we sign multi-year contracts with guaranteed prices and quantities (all or part of their harvest, minus what their family eats and their seed requirements).
Each supply chain is given support. This may be for technical issues (consultancy, training, organic growing methods...), investment, social actions (health, education, public amenities, etc.) or promoting its produce to consumers.
This fair trade model, certified by the labels Bio Solidaire / Organic Solidarity (in France) and Bio Équitable / Organic Fair Trade (worldwide), has been strongly nurtured by the Ekibio Group through the non-profit Biopartenaire.
Creating wealth and sharing prosperity locally
In southeast France, Ekibio employs 160 people at three production sites in north Ardèche, north Isère and the Camargue. Most of our staff, managers included, are recruited locally. In Bolivia, Ekibio has created 40 jobs at its production plant - part of the Organic Fair Trade quinoa supply chain - which contributes to the local development of a poor region, the Altiplano.
We work with farmers and suppliers on a closest-is-best basis. Some 70% of Ekibio HQ suppliers (bank, printworks, consultancy, maintenance...) are based within 20km of Peaugres; 72% of products under our Priméal food brand are made with crops organically farmed in France and Europe; and more than 86% of our personal and home care products that we offer to our brands are made in France, in our own plants or our partners'.
The organic and Organic Solidarity supply chains that Ekibio has developed in France help to maintain and foster the vitality of local farming (production and processing) and of rural areas, their heritage and landscapes. This is true of Ardèche chestnuts, PGI-labelled Camargue rice, PGI-labelled Einkorn wheat from Haute-Provence (near Drôme), but also wheatflour and honey from the Rhône-Alpes region and the growing of millet, now revived in Poitou-Charente.
Elsewhere in the world, Ekibio helps to provide incomes and safeguard traditional crops for hundreds of male and female smallholders via other Organic Fair Trade supply chains: those set up by the Group in Paraguay (sugar) and in the village of Tazghlilt, Morocco (argan oil); and those from which it procures supplies, in Benin (shea), Mali (sesame), India (rice), and elsewhere.
